Tequeños, also known as cheese sticks covered by wheat dough or puff pastry that surpises whoever tries them.

This venezuelan dish is becoming very popular, and now it is easier to find them in different countries, or even the cinema. They are the perfect match to popcorns!

Actually, tequeños have been innovating, like Tepizzare, and they even maintain traditional touch, as we do!. It is because now tequeños have differents fillers like sweet and salty combinatios as cheese and guayaba jelly, or just sweet as nutella filled tequeños or Dulce de Leche, and obviously, the tradicional ones with latin cheese.

The origin of this traditional venezuelan dish is not certain. There are some different stories that try to get the tequeños beginning, that is why we want to show you each one of them:

Theory 1:

It is said that ther were created by domestic staff from the richests families in the city of “Los Teques”. They took the leftover bread dough, wrapped the cheese sticks and then fried them, so now they had a different dish. If it is true, they had one of the most delicius dishes in the world without realizing it!!

Theory 2:

Some people think that tequeños were created by Báez family, also from the city of “Los Teques” in Venezuela, and they said that every time this family went to Caracas, people shouted “The tequeños! arrived!”, talking of the plate and the demonym of this family.

Teoría 3:

The possibility that the origin of the Tequeños was from the state of Zulia in the 20th century is discussed. They said that an Italian named Franco decided to introduce this delicious dish that we love. Can you bear the idea that Tequeños are not Venezuelans? We believe in the other two theories!.

Theory 4:

The lastest theory says that tequeños comes from the city of Caracas on the 19th Cetury. In a neighborhood called “El Teque”, a thief was captured and his defense was that he was buying some “pastelitos”, and with the passage of time those were the tequeños we know today. It is amazing what people can do for some tequeños!!.

Otherwise there are some theories about de origin of the very popular tequeños, and even without knowing exactly the history, we know that we are very grateful to have them in our lives, because there is no good party, reunion, movie or celebration without our beloved tequeños. They are the perfect match to everything!

Tequeños are also a very versatile dish and there is no one who can resist them, they are perfect for every occasion!
